Reinier Baas is a guitarist and composer based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He is recognized as an innovative musician by critics and peers alike, and is known for his avant-garde harmonic inventions, exceptional rhythmic abilities and textures that suggest two guitarists playing simultaneously. He has won two Edison Awards for his albums, of which he has released 10 to date. He has written music for and performed with Pynarello Symphony Orchestra, the WDR Big Band and the Metropole Orkest. As a guitarist, he has worked with outstanding musicians such as Ben van Gelder, Louis Cole, Gregory Porter, Fuensanta, Benjamin Herman and Han Bennink. He is on faculty at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and Siena Jazz University, Italy. He has released a ‘magazine’ on modal harmony, and is currently working on a book detailing his composition method: the Parameter Approach.
